Aswan

Aswan, located in the south of Egypt, is a serene Nile Valley destination where the Nile is more majestic than anywhere else, flowing through amber desert and granite rocks, round emerald islands covered in palm groves and tropical plants. It is considered one of the driest inhabited places on Earth; in Aswan the sun shines for almost every day of the year. The city itself has a distinctly African atmosphere, its ancient Egyptian name ’Swnw’ means ’trade’ which reflects its heritage as a vital market town.

Historically, Aswan is one of the earliest urban civilizations in Egypt, with origins as a strategic trade and military outpost. Today, it serves as the perfect base to explore the temples, monuments and other tourist attractions in the southern region of Egypt. It holds a wide array of sites ranging from ancient temples to modern marvels like the High Dam, making it an indispensable part of the Egyptian tourist map.
